MANGOS
Mangos are the most eaten fresh fruit in the world.
Although not too well known in the United States, it is highly valued
in other parts of the world. The first attempt to introduce mangos to
the USA was in 1833, when the plants were transported from Mexico to
Florida. In fact, post-NAFTA, fresh mangos from Mexico are now commonly
found in supermarkets. These sweet treats should not be overlooked.
The common color of the mango is orange, although the fruit can range
from green to yellow to red. A quality mango has a small seedstone. The
pulp is delecate and smooth.
The fruit should be fresh in appearance, plump and firm to the touch.
Mangos are best eaten as a fresh fruit. They have a high sugar content,
although they are slightly acid in taste.
Beneficial Effects:
Mangos are a rich source of both vitamin A and vitamin C, two key anti-oxidents.
This makes them fine sources of nutrition, and for keeping the body in
good general health.
Mangos are an excellent disinfectant to the body. Many claim that mangos
are fine blood cleansers, and it also has fever soothing properties.
This relates very much to their high vitamin C content. Eat them in the
mornings, along with other fruits to receive the greatest benefits.
Fun Stuff:
Staying healthy is important, but it's also good to relax once in a
while. For this reason we note that mangos are a fine fruit to include
for cocktail add-ons. Mango puree is delicious in margaritas. Like a
strawberry margarita, mango margaritas are very chic in fine Tex-Mex
restaurants near the border.
